Do Miz Nebs be fair?

Assignment: Pick one or two classes and, at the end of class, pass out a sheet of paper and ask them to answer, anonymously, this question: Is the teacher fair?  Write the responses and your reaction.


1st Period- Honors Class

• No, because write[writing] MDCA's [copy assignment] for no reason is not called for.
• Yes, mostly because she does the right thing, and always make the right choices.
• Yes, because she is my favorite teacher, and she is very intelligent, nice, and well-mannered.
• Yes, because she treats everybody the same.  She doesn't talk to you any kind of way.  She makes sure you understand good.  That's why I think Miss Nesbitt is fair.
• Ms, Nesbitt isn't fair when she makes the whole class suffer when one person does something.
• Yes, because she treat all of us equally!
• Yes, because she is a nice teacher.  She also give them a 2nd chance so they don't have extra homework.  She fair to every class period that she have everyday.
• Miss Nesbitt is fair and nice to me.  Everytime we forget to do something, she let's us make it [up].  She give us chances to stop acting bad when we are suppose to.  I think Miss Nesbitt is a great teacher.
• She is kind of.  I still don't like the way she make us head our paper.  It's long, and time consuming.  We can just do it the regular way, so I can stay in the margin.
• Yes, because she does everything fairly.
• Yes.
• Yes, because she gives everyone time and opportunity.
• Sometimes she is not fair because she teaches things we already know and she makes us do gestures.
• Yes, because when we get in trouble she doesn't send us to the office.
• Yes, Ms. Nesbitt is fair in everything she do.  This is because she allows is to do the same amount of time to do things.  She give her other classes the same respect that she gives us.  We all have the time to learn in her class.
• Yes, because when someone doesn't know something she try to help them even if she already explained it millions of times.
• Yes, she's fair.  We might not like it when we do wrong and get in trouble.  But she gives us consequences.
• Miss is fair. She's fair because she gives you time to do your work. She gives us guided notes, and she helps us with our work.  So yes, Miss Nesbitt is fair...
• Yes, Ms. Nesbitt is fair.  Because if one person get a piece of gum, all will get a piece. Thank you!
• Yes, because is more than fair.  She is a great teacher.
• Yeah! Because she don't get an bad attitude unless you get one with her. Then she's just nice.
• Yes Ms. Nesbitt is fair though to other students it may not seem like it but she is.  Sometimes she hollers but that is because she cares about us.  She gives us constructive criticism that really helps us a LOT.  She is the best teacher ever.
• No, because she want [won't] give me my bracelet back.

I was pleasantly surprised by my students' responses.  I've secretly wondered if they thought I was being fair in some of my decisions as a teacher and disciplinarian, and a majority of them think so! :) The kids always have a way of making me feel good.  I'm glad this was a blog post.  I also asked my other classes.  I'll post their responses soon. I was a little shocked by some of their levels of awareness of what's going on in the class and in the school (good or bad).
